FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  1. EQUIPMENT ( a visit should done by the SHA before purchasing)

Materials and hand-outs of Saudi Heart Association is posted in the web site and approached by each candidates through his/ her authentication credentials. Other Extra training materials can be purchased from the authors directly. Saudi Heart Association (SHA) has the facilities for English and Arabic versions online.

  1. THE WORKING PERSONELL: TITLE AND CRITERIA;

Training Center Director

A physician or an anesthetist has to be assigned by the Chief of staff to be responsible for the CPR Centre in your hospital or as per rule of the organization. They should met the criteria of SHA.

Job description:

  1. He/she must have three-five years experience as a consultant.
  2. The assigned program director has to attend and complete the Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor’s Course or equivalent advanced course as per his / her medical specialities.
  3. The program director (chairman of the CPR Committee of the organization) will be responsible for full control of the activities of the centre regarding organization, conduction and supervision of all CPR training programs. 
  4. He/she can participate as instructor in order to keep the validity of his/her certificate.
  5. In hospitals he/she responsible for the content of the crash carts, distribution, stocking and testing or as per hospital policies.
  6. He/she can assign instructors for each course.
  7. He/she should be able to utilize the statistics of their own center in research and conferences.
  8. He/she can submit regular reports to the chairman of the CPR committee requesting recertification of instructors who complete the required 8 courses during the validity of the certificate.
  9. He/she can submit a recommendation letter to the chairman of the national CPR committee requesting enrollment of potential instructors to attend instructor courses and / or an upgrade of certain instructors to senior or faculty title who fulfill the criteria of SHA.

CPR COORDINATOR

A physician, nurse or a technician may be assigned as CPR coordinator by the program director (CPR chairman).

Job description: 

  1. The assigned CPR coordinator has to attend and complete the Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor’s Course.
  2. He/she is assigned by the CPR program director.
  3. He/she is responsible for running the activities of the CPR center.
  4. He/she is responsible to submit monthly report on the CPR courses conducted in the centre to the chairman and / or the program director.
  5. He/she is responsible to see that the assigned course supervisor is preparing all necessary educational materials for the course.
  6. He/she is responsible to communicate with the CPR office for any inquiries, advice, requesting the necessary educational materials.
  7. He/She is responsible for the the database entry for the trainees in the training course and all activities related to the center online.

Identification of Instructor potential (IP)for SHA CPR Courses

  1. The instructor can be a medical doctor, nurse, technician or paramedic.
  2. Demonstrated good competence in the subject at a provider course.
  3. Score more than 90 % in the written and skill performance at provider course from the first attempt.
  4. Speak both languages (Arabic/English)fluently.
  5. Show a leadership personality.
  6. Show a clinical credibility and skills, then involve being articulated, supportive and motivated.
  7. Recommended by two (2) senior and / or faculty instructors at the provider course.Also instead, he can provide recommendation letters from the director or coordinator of the TC he will train with them.

Identification of Instructor Candidates (IC)

  • Successfully complete the instructor course conducted by SHA.
  • Teach on courses under the supervision of senior instructor for the first 90 days after the date of the instructor course with excellent performance
  • The number of under supervision courses is decided with the final result of the instructor course.
  • The supervision courses are paid courses and fees subjected to changes without previous notification
  • After he/she finish the assigned supervision course, the IC normally progress to full instructor status, but occasionally the senior instructor and/or faculty decides that a further course is required, or rarely that the candidates is not suitable to progress to be an instructor.
  • An appeal can be logged with the national CPR committee which makes the final decision.
  • RECOGNIZED INSTRUCTORS BY INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATIONS: Can be registered as SHA Instructors after attending an orientation online session conducted by the SHA Head Quarter. 

Full Instructor status

  • FULLY conduct any assignment during the course independently.
  • He/she can be responsible or assigned to organize and conduct a specific CPR course by the coordinator and approved by the CPR program director.
  • Show a Flexibility, modest personality during teaching and training.
  • Should consult senior instructor in case of inefficient knowledge, or skill performance to himself.
  • He/she is responsible to maintain and keep the center and all equipment in a good working order.
  • He/she may be assigned by senior for any task within the center activities. 
  • Attached to his certifying center for renewal of instructor certificate.

Senior Instructor (SI)

  • Full instructor conducting provider courses for more than 5 years. 
  • Participate in more than 20 under supervision for (IC).
  • Have excellent feed back about his performance during the course by candidates, coordinator/director.
  • Participate in training of trainer (TOT) courses under supervision of faculty.
  • Letter of recommendations by coordinator /director of the center to upgrade to senior instructor, forwarded to national CPR Committee
  • Recommend by two (2) faculty members as a full TOT instructor.

Faculty Member

  • Senior instructor (for both BLS and ACLS) participates fully and independently in more than ten (10) TOT courses.
  • Have considerable clinical credibility, good judgment and impeccable powers of assessment and fairness.
  • Recommended by Director of CPR Training Centers and course Director of TOT courses. 
  • Approval should come from National CPR Committee at SHA.

Course Director Status

  • Full instructor can progress to the status of course director.
  • Should participate in more than Ten (10) courses as full instructor, and at least four (4) courses have been appointed as course co-director.
  • Have considerable clinical credibility, good judgment and impeccable powers of assessment and fairness.
  • Recommended by coordinator/director of training center.

OBLIGATIONS OF THE SAUDI HEART ASSOCIATION:

The Saudi Heart Association is the sole body responsible for the CPR activities in the kingdom and is a member of the Pan Arab Resuscitation Council ( PARC). The later is affiliated with international liaison committee on resuscitation (ILCOR)as an observer council.

  1. The Saudi Heart Association will issue a certificate of accreditation annually upon receiving an online request and payment of the fees indicating the period of its validity and specifying the courses accredited for the center.  For private health training center should submit a valid accredited license from SCFHS as per the Royal decree.
  2. The SHA will provide all needed materials online to organize and conduct courses and small bar coded certificates through the portal system, together with a reasonable quantity of posters or other training aids.
  3. The Saudi Heart Association will immediately notify all accredited centers of any changes in the standards and performance guidelines which are notified to the association.  
  4. The first and second courses run by any center will be supervised by a member   and/or faculty of the Saudi Heart Association.
  5. The Saudi Heart Association shall form an oversight group of faculty members who will be responsible for monitoring and/or reviewing training Centers performance and compliance with SHA program guidelines and curriculum on an annual basis through a visit of sites, course audits and monitoring of instructors.
  6. Validity of the CPR certificates is two years.
  7. The SHA will notify the SCFHS with all centers accredited regularly. 
  8. The Saudi Heart Association has the right to suspend, withdraw or cancel the certificate of accreditation in the case of violating the following points : 
  • Providing courses away from their approved centers except for offsite accreditation of heart saver or first aid courses.
  • Courses not compliant to approved contents and/or skill stations.
  • Courses not compliant to approved course duration.
  • Issuing certificates without training.
  • Providing courses at unrealistic +/- rates from the SHA pricing list except for the organizational employees.
  • The center should maintain the ratio of (one instructor: 6 candidates) and never use one instructor only for classes with a bigger numbers(i.e > 6 candidates).
  • The number of sponsored certified instructors of the center is less than three (3).
  • Using unauthorized copies of educational material.
  • Forgery of signatures, falsification of examination results & other documents.
  • Improper use of materials or web site access provided by the Association.
  • Violating the items stated in the agreement between the center and the SHA.

It is hoped that all centers/affiliates will adhere to these requirements and recommendations to achieve our goal in maintaining the standards and Quality of training. The 2015 guidelines of CPR issued with the update 2017 publication and is available on the website of the national CPR committee (ksacpr.org.sa) for each candidate webpage.

OBLIGATIONS OF ACCREDITED CENTERS

The following criteria must be met before the Saudi Heart Association (SHA) will consider request from any Institution for recognition and accreditation:

  1. Follow the standards and guidelines of the Saudi Heart Association for establishing Training Center:  Adequate numbers of certified Instructors in BLS,ACLS and/or PALS. Availability of equipment required for Basic and/or Advanced Cardiac Life Support training programs. A well equipped center with a lecture room & performance stations nearby, offices, secretarial facilities, storage room, etc.
  2. Private centers will pay the stipulated fees allocated for the centre / year (please read carefully item no. 3 category of centers next page).

  1. the following are the categories of accredited private CPR centers and annual fees:
  • Small Centers; Certify up to 299 candidates/year, Pay  4000.00 SAR/course category ( heart saver or first Aid is 2000 SR)
  • Intermediate Center; Certify over 300-799 candidates/year, Pay Total 5000.00 SAR/ course category ( heart saver or first Aid is 3000 SR).
  • large center; Certify over 800 – 2000 candidates/year, Pay 6000.00 SAR / course category ( heart saver or first Aid is 4000 SR)
  • Each center must specify its category during the application for accreditation or reaccreditations, so the center will have automatic counter on the website for the no. of issued bar coded certificates.
  • The big certificates will be issued through the web site, but candidates can claim them from the training center only. The training center can issue their certificate with both Saudi heart logo and their logo provided that they upload their logo through their profile in the website or should stamp the certificates with the official stamp of the center.
  1. The new small bar coded certificates will be issued automatically through the website after approval from Saudi heart program head/facilitator, and can be printed by the candidates once they fill the feedback of the course. In case of loosing the certificate the candidates can reprint it through the web site as long as they keep records of their username and password.
  2. Once the training centers are registered in the website, and manage their courses through it, the statistic of each center will be monitored automatically by the Saudi heart.
  3. Recertification of each center will only be granted provided the file record of the center is kept uptodate.
  4. The SHA shall have an access to all center facilities through the website in order to conduct an annual review to all centers and monitor their activities.
  5. Application form must be completed through the website, while the agreement form should be requested from the CPR SECRETARY for signature and return back with the application for accreditation or reaccreditation of centers.

To define a guideline on the advance life support care training courses conducted by accredited CPR  training centers in Saudi Arabia.

To promote patient safety and maximize the patient’s chance of survival.

DEFINITIONS

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) usually refers to basic life support (BLS), which includes rescue breathing and closed chest cardiac compressions. However, practically the term is much broader and includes advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), pediatric advanced life support (PALS) and advanced trauma life support (ATLS).

Advance life support courses refers to the following courses; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Life Support (PAL) and Neonatal Resuscitation Support Program (NRSP).

POLICY

  1. It is the policy of the Saudi Heart Association (SHA) to ensure the best learning and clinical performance of the advanced life support care trainee when they apply for SHA training courses.
  2. It is the policy of the SHA to ensure the effectiveness of leadership and team training during advance life support courses.
  3. It is the policy of the SHA to implement the best way of training that keep the advance care team members updated and skillful which is acceptable internationally.

PROCEDURE

  1. To improve the learning and clinical performance of advance care team, the training should full filled the following criteria:
    1. Training materials should be reviewed a head of time before the training course.
      1. Training batches should be closed at least 3 days before the course for new participants and 1 day before the course for renew.
      2. The trainee should review the training materials and do the pretest unlimited times on the CPR portals.
  1. To improve the effectiveness of leadership and team performance, the training should be;
    1. Monitored and recorded for performance-focused briefing and debriefing.
    2. Use the high fidelity manikin for mock code (code drill or refreshing courses every 3-6 months) with briefing and debriefing sessions inside cardiac arrest treating hospitals.
    3. Alternatively, in case of unavailable high fidelity manikins debriefing session can be done using low fidelity manikins or proper debriefing is performed once a real code end.
  2. To keep the advance care team updated and skillfully, the following should be ensured for effective outcomes;
    1. The organization should have a system to monitor the code team members performance through the CPR committee and quality improvement department.
    2. All code team members should review all related materials through CME programs or updated files in the SHA CPR portal.
    3. The private CPR training centers should have contract with cardiac arrest treating hospitals to ensure their trainee will have training with the international standards and facilitate for them refreshing courses every 6 months to keep up the skills of the code team members,

No, SHA stopped the online BLS course since Aug 8 2020. That is due all accredited training centers returned back to their normal activities.

As per 2015 guidelines a monitored room for recording and debriefing team performance is a requirement for PALS accreditation in addition to 2 rooms to run the code simulation practice stations.  Each should have the same equipment.

٢- تسجيل الدخول للحساب الخاص بكم في جمعية القلب السعودية.

٣ – اذهب الى course catalog الموجودة في اعلى الصفحة.

٤ – اختر تاريخ الدورة والمدينة واسم المركز او أحدهم ثم قم بعملية البحث بالضغط على   filter apply

٥ –  بعد ظهور الدورات في المدينة الخاصة بك اختر اسم الدورة وستحول الى نافذة الدورات المتاحة في المدينة والمراكز صفحة بمسمى  

Training programe

٦ – ابحث عن الدورة المرغوب بها في المركز المرغوب فيه في الجدول الموجود نهاية الصفحة وقم بالضغط على كلمة Registar ( قبل الضغط علىregister يمكنك الضغط على اسم المركز باللون الاحمر للاستعلام على تفاصيل الدورة من رسوم ووقت ومكان الدورة … الخ)

٧ – بعد الضغط على Register ستفتح لك نافذة بالشروط والاحكام اضغط على I AGREE وسيتم التسجيل بإذن الله في حال كانت المحفظة مشحونة. إذا لم تكن مشحونة بمبلغ ٥٠ ريال رسوم التسجيل للدورة في الجمعية قم بالدفع ثم عد الى كلمة Register  مره اخرى..

٨ – اذهب الى MY ACTIVITIES ثم MY COURSES ستجد تفاصيل الدورة. 

٩ – قم بالتواصل مع المركز لتأكيد التسجيل و لمعرفة تفاصيل الدورة كامله من رسوم، وقت ، مكان وطريقة الاختبار … الخ.

  4.      choose the center by its name and write the date and the prefer city Or any of them , then make the search by clicking on Apply FILTER.
  5.      then choose the course by clicking on its name .
  1.      after that a page of training programme will open and you can find a table with the course information, click on the center name with RED CLOURE then the contact information will appear to you to contact the center and collect the information about your course.
  2.      try to find the prefer date by searching in all pages then click on REGISTER.
